First, the film Moulin Rouge won an Oscar. Then the musical became a success on Broadway and in London. After that, it came to Stockholm and China Teatern. Now it's Gothenburg and Rondo's turn!

More than 20 years have passed since Baz Luhrman's Oscar-winning film Moulin Rouge! took the world by storm. Since then, the musical version has conquered both New York and London. And most recently Stockholm and China Teatern, where Moulin Rouge! The Musical became a gigantic success and played for 150,000 guests during two completely sold-out seasons. Now the musical is finally coming to Gothenburg! Rondo will be the arena for a spectacular and lavish production where the venue transforms into the legendary Moulin Rouge nightclub in Paris. The audience is welcomed to become part of 1890s Paris and the romantic and vibrant era known as La Belle Époque. Moulin Rouge! The Musical is the kind of show where afterward you say: I was there!

The story takes place in 1899, when the young and hopeful poet Christian (Andreas Wijk) tries his luck in Paris, where he finds himself among the weathered but loving bohemians in the artists' quarter. When Christian manages to put on a show at the legendary Moulin Rouge nightclub, he immediately falls in love with the club's biggest star Satine (Marsha Songcome) - and she with him. But in a world where truth is negotiable and beauty can be bought for money, their fight for freedom and love becomes a matter of life and death. To save the club's finances, Moulin Rouge's owner Harold Zidler (Morgan Alling) is forced to seek help from the ruthless but wealthy Count of Monroth (Fred Johanson). In return, the count is promised Satine as his mistress. The club's fate now lies in Satine's hands as she is torn between her love for Christian and her responsibility to the club and her fellow performers.

The Gothenburg version of Moulin Rouge! The Musical is a so-called non-replica production where the creative team has been given complete freedom in creating the Swedish version. We get to see some of Sweden's brightest musical theater stars and also the chance to discover exciting new talents.
