Joyride – The Musical
Following the musical successes of Moulin Rouge! The Musical and Dreamgirls The Musical, China Teatern is preparing to open its doors to this autumn’s major feel-good musical: Joyride – The Musical!
Set to the music of the legendary pop duo Roxette, we’re taken on an unforgettable rollercoaster ride filled with joy, humor, spectacular numbers, upbeat hits, and soaring power ballads. C’mon, join the joyride!
“Listen to Your Heart,” “It Must Have Been Love,” “The Look,” “Dangerous,” “Dressed for Success”... Everyone has a connection to these classics that made Roxette—comprising the duo Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle—a global, multi-million-selling phenomenon in the late 80s and early 90s.
The timeless music, with its distinct sound and deep emotional resonance, has become the soundtrack to countless lives.
These songs form the foundation of Joyride – The Musical, a show as energetic, grand, and witty as the music itself, premiering in Stockholm at China Teatern on September 11.
A love triangle packed with iconic musical numbers
Joyride – The Musical, based on the hit novel Got You Back by bestselling British author Jane Fallon, is both a nostalgic journey for those who grew up with Roxette’s hits and an introduction to their music for a new generation.
Inspired by Roxette’s iconic music videos and 90s aesthetics, directors Guy Unsworth and Johanna Hybinette, together with set designer David Woodhead, create a unique world for this love triangle, set in London.
The story centers around Stephanie and Katie, who discover they are both in a relationship with the same man—Joe, who is leading a double life. When the truth comes out, the women decide to take revenge, but their plan takes an unexpected turn. The question is: what happens when revenge is complete?
The cast includes Lucas Krüger (Joe), Emilie Evbäck (Katie), Jessica Marberger (Stephanie), Anton Lundqvist (Gary), Pia Ternström (Natasha), and Hanna Hedlund (Meredith).
The production is presented by 2Entertain, Vicky Nöjesproduktion, Elevator Entertainment, and Live Nation.
