The legendary 1978 film, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, has been adored by generation after generation and has secured its place as a true pop culture classic. The story of Sandy, Danny and the teenagers at Rydell High remains one of the musical world’s most enduring phenomena – from Broadway and the West End to stages across the globe.
In autumn 2026, Grease The Musical arrives at Rondo in Gothenburg in a vibrant, high-energy stage production where the spirit of the original meets a fresh, contemporary style. This is the Grease you know and love – but with renewed energy, added edge and a rhythm that pulses through the entire auditorium.
Following the film’s enormous success, Grease became timeless and an essential part of growing up for several generations. A classic love story told through some of the most iconic songs ever written. The music is performed in English with Swedish dialogue, and audiences will experience unforgettable hits such as Summer Nights, Greased Lightnin’, Hopelessly Devoted to You and You’re the One That I Want – songs everyone knows, loves and can’t help but sing along to.
On stage, audiences will meet powerful performers and unforgettable characters delivered with sharp humor, high tempo and precision. Sandy and Danny are portrayed by Lovisa Bengtsson and Anton Ewald – two young people searching for themselves, each other and their place in the world. It’s a story about love, identity, friendship and the courage to be who you truly are – just as relevant today as when Grease first premiered.
Also appearing are Boris René, Pia Tärnström, Vanja Engström, Arantxa Álvarez, Anna Mannheimer, Nils Reinholtz and Emil Henrohn, together with a large ensemble and live orchestra. Direction and Swedish dialogue are by Klas Wiljergård, choreography by Jennie Widegren and musical direction by Nils-Petter Ankarblom.
